Do you live in Aberdeen? Tell us what you like about it. Have you lived in Aberdeen? What would make you come back? Thanks for your input! — Troy McQuillen
Hi Rosalind! Thanks for the question. We have tons and tons of literature and websites about Aberdeen. Help me help you. What would be most beneficial to you given your unique situation of wanting to relocate? Jobs? Housing? Etc? My company designed a website http://www.aberdeensd.com which has a bunch of links and a visitor guide that you can page through.
Thank you! Housing and schools are my focus. I wish I could find a virtual tour of the town. I want to get the feel of the place, and the only sence I can use on the web is my sight. I’ll check out your site for sure.
Troy,
Thanks for building and hosting this site. I am not from Aberdeen…but I’ve been looking at your town for a couple years now with the idea of relocating from Southern California. There was an episode of The Twilight Zone entitled “A Stop at Willoughby” in which an advertising executive who has grown exasperated with the stress of the business life longs to get off the train at a stop called Willoughby, a small town where everyone knows you and waves. I guess I’m looking for my Willoughby. Wish me luck, Troy.
Kindest Regards
George
We’d love to have you! When I lived in LA and came home for the holidays, I used to dread getting back on the plane. I knew as soon as my feet hit the ground in LA I would be off and running again. Coming here from LA was sooooo peaceful and relaxing. Now, 15 years later…after I moved back, my life is hectic as heck. But I love it. Commutes are minutes, not even 10s of minutes, but minutes. I don’t even think I’d call it commuting. All the way to and from work you see people you know…and they wave. Willoughby…Aberdeen??? Sounds similar.
Lived in aberdeen in 2004-5 , I am from Oregon, recently relocated to south Texas, hated it. We are four days from arriving back in aberdeen. Being a past resident, I have to say there is just “something” that I have always loved about aberdeen.
I know what I’m coming to, and I have a great peace about it. Aberdeen is a caring, resourceful, stick together kind of community. There are jobs, and affordable housing, to me (cheaper than Oregon/Texas) Life is more enjoyable, less fast paced, the kind of place id like to stay put and raise my kids.
Looking forward to moving back in 4 days! August 10th 2011
Well, I never thought I would be posting this, but here it goes. My family and I moved to Aberdeen so I could pursue my Master’s degree at NSU. I was able to serve as a graduate assistant, make great contacts with influential people in Aberdeen, and found a great church. Our second child was born in Aberdeen and the doctor was awesome. The city is very safe, and the schools are great. The community just feels very united and I made good friendships. The biggest part that surprised me was the acceptance of diversity. For a small college in SD, NSU was pretty diverse. The community also seemed to embrace diversity. I no longer live in the state, but I would recommend Aberdeen as a great place to raise a family. You do have to sacrifice certain things for living in a small town, but the trade off is worth it.

Your site was full of info and gave me a better look at the area and all it had to offer. I will refer to it often.
